The ongoing global coronavirus pandemic has presented a host of challenges as people all over the world struggle with being stuck at home in an effort to mitigate the spread of the virus. Maintaining a routine while under quarantine is essential for both your physical and emotional health. Here are three ways that you can stick with a daily routine despite being relegated to your home.
The number one thing that you can do to achieve some sort of normalcy with your routine is to get dressed each morning. This simple act will send the signal to your brain that you are ready to be productive with your time at home. While you are at it, you can also make an effort to make your bed. This neatens up your space and makes it less tempting for you to get back under the covers. Performing these easy tasks will help to inspire you to practice self-care during this time rather than succumbing to the temptation of being lazy and unproductive.
Your physical and mental health should be your top priority during this time. You can start by making sure that you are nourishing your body with nutritious foods. It is also important to resist the urge to be a couch potato. Even if your gym is closed, there are still ways that you can make exercise a priority. There are lots of great ways you can keep up with your fitness routine without going out. Try streaming a workout video or going outside for a walk or a run. Moving your body will also help you sleep better at night.
It may be tempting to burn the midnight oil and stay up late binge-watching your favorite show or getting lost in a great book when you know that you do not need to wake up early in the morning. However, not following a regular sleep schedule can wreak havoc on your body’s internal clock, making it difficult to stay with a routine. To combat this, it is important to maintain a normal bedtime and wake-up time even if you do not have a reason to get up by a certain time.
Now is a great time to step back and examine all of your health and wellness routines. Sticking to a regular routine will help you to get through this time with as little disruption as possible to your normal lifestyle.
